Discount Kit is a 2026 Shopify Build Award winner
A gold box, a varsity jacket and a lot of stickers — Discount Kit took home a Shopify Build Award at DotDev in Toronto.
Discount Kit is a 2026 Shopify Build Award winner. Shopify handed the awards out at DotDev in Toronto on 21 July, and we’re still slightly disbelieving about it.

The Build Awards go to apps Shopify thinks are pushing the platform forward, which is a flattering way of describing what mostly feels like stubbornness on our part: writing discount functions in Rust because milliseconds matter, rebuilding the admin in Polaris web components the month they landed, shipping storefront components that render without a single API call, and teaching Sidekick to build a discount from a sentence. None of that is visible to a merchant. It just makes the thing faster and less annoying, which is the whole job.
The swag is excellent — there is a jacket, and it is being worn — but the part we keep coming back to is the coaster. It reads “From Pizza Hut to BFCM, battle-tested.” Somebody at Shopify went and looked at who runs their promotions on the kit. That’s the bit that got us.
A fortnight later, Liquid Weekly recorded a live episode at DotDev with three of the winners — Sammy for Discount Kit, Harel of EasyTeam and Emili of Zapiet — on what it takes to win one of these, betting early on POS, and building for Sidekick. It’s worth an hour: Episode 072 — Meet the Build Award winners.
Thank you to every merchant who’s trusted us with a promotion, and to everyone who’s sent in an idea, a bug report, or a question at 3am. The jacket is ours; the award is yours too.
