Import and export
Export saves a discount’s full setup as a JSON file: its rules, tiers, conditions, eligibility, combinations, dates and tags. Import reads that file back into the editor as a new, unsaved discount.
Use it to keep a backup before a big change, or to move a discount from a development store to your live store. To copy a discount within the same store, Duplicate is quicker.
Import and export work with these discount types:
- Custom
- Product volume
- Order
- Gift with purchase
- Shipping
Sale discounts can’t be exported or imported.
Export a discount
Section titled “Export a discount”-
Open the discount
Open a saved discount in Discount Kit.
-
Click More actions, then Export
Discount Kit downloads a file named after the discount type and title, for example
dk-volume-summer-sale.json.
The file holds the discount as it was last saved. Save any changes first if you want them in the export.
Import a discount
Section titled “Import a discount”-
Start a new discount
Create a new Discount Kit discount. The type you pick doesn’t matter; the file decides which editor opens.
-
Click Import
Import is in the top bar of the new discount page. It isn’t shown on a discount that’s already saved, because an import always creates a new discount.
-
Choose the file
Drop the exported
.jsonfile onto the upload area, or click it to browse. If the file can’t be imported, the reason is shown under the file name. Click Reset import to pick another. -
Click Import and continue
The editor opens with every setting filled in from the file.
-
Review and save
Check the settings, then click Save. Nothing is created until you do.
Before you save
Section titled “Before you save”An import copies the file exactly. A few settings need a look before you save, especially when you import into a different store.
- Products, collections and eligibility. Products, collections, customer segments, markets and locations are saved by their ID in the store they came from. Those IDs don’t exist in another store, so select them again.
- Discount code. A code discount keeps its code. Codes must be unique in a store, so choose a new one if the original discount still exists.
- Dates. The start and end dates are copied as they were. A start date in the past makes the discount active as soon as you save it, and an end date in the past means it has already expired.
- Title. The title is copied unchanged. Rename the discount if you want to tell it apart from the original.
If an import fails
Section titled “If an import fails”| Message | What it means |
|---|---|
| That file isn’t a valid discount config. | The file isn’t JSON, or isn’t a Discount Kit export. |
| That file uses a newer format than this app supports. | The file came from a newer version of Discount Kit. Reload the app and try again. |
| Discount type can’t be imported. | The file is for a discount type that import doesn’t support, such as a sale discount. |
| That file is missing discount data, or missing discount config. | The file was edited or cut short after it was exported. Export it again. |
| This config is too large to import. | The file is over the size limit. |
Import checks the file’s format, not every setting inside it. To change a setting, import the original and change it in the editor rather than editing the file.
